MCLC’s Mackenzie Monaco served as co-Chair of ALFA International’s Hospitality & Retail Practice Group’s Seminar held May 29-31, 2024 in Los Cabos, Mexico.

The program “Lights, Camera, Action! An Analysis of Current Hospitality & Retail Challenges through a Camera Lens” focused on the future of the hospitality and retail sector. ALFAI members and clients from across the country attended and attended strategy sessions, including:

  • “Liquor Liability and Responsibility for 3rd Party Criminal Acts in the Hospitality Industry” – this session explored the current landscape of liquor liability, shedding light on the rise in alcohol-related deaths and associated legal challenges.
  • “Florida Has Enacted Tort Reform – What That Means and Does it Affect Other Jurisdictions” – this panel explored the finer points of HB837/SB236 and ensuing trends and developments in tort reform.
  • “Recreational and Medical Marijuana at a Tipping Point – an Examination of its Implications” – this session examined recent legislation and developments, early liability, insurance, and employment implications.
  • “See is Believing, or Is It?” – this panel focused on AI and deepfakes, discussing the importance of authenticating evidence and confronting challenging of emerging technologies.
  • “It’s Only an Ethical Dilemma if You Have a Conscience – Ethics Lessons” – this session explored the evolution of ethics and lessons learned from television shows and movies.
  • “A Recipe for Success – Lessons and Wisdom from FX’s The Bear” – this presentation focused on mental health in the workplace, third party criminal acts on premises, and mentoring and training programs.
  • “Weighing the Risks and Benefits of AI in Hospitality and Retail – Who Wins – Man, Machine or Both?” – this roundtable discussion addressed the benefits and risks that may surface as AI becomes more integrated in hospital and retail practices.
  • “Unity and Diversity … Beyond the University” – this session focused on the implications of emerging anti-DE&I legislation against business values, managing litigation risks, and managing public backlash.
  • “Class Actions – Preparing for the Storm” – this panel touched on best practices for preparing to handle looming class action lawsuits.
